It all started with a sensational meme that said something like “Did you know magnesium is used in over 300 processes in the body? It’s a super important mineral!” Okay, maybe not exactly but close enough.
My response was, “Who cares? Are many of us actually deficient in magnesium?”
As I looked into the literature, the answer was yes. About 1 in 7 people (or more) may not be getting enough of this mineral that apparently does more in our body than any other substance known to man.
I then made acquaintances with a random Facebooker who was obsessed with magnesium. Every known disease was somehow linked back to a magnesium deficiency. Diabetes?
Diabetes? Magnesium Deficiency
Hypertension? Magnesium Deficiency
Erectile Dysfunction? Magnesium Deficiency
Don’t want to die? Better get your magnesium in!
As I continued to follow the research, it turns out there was some truth to it. Maybe a bit sensational, but certainly there is good reason to go ahead and eat more foods containing magnesium. See this recent review.
Here are the best food sources of magnesium
As you can see, many of these foods are healthy anyway. If you’re not getting much of the above, it may be necessary to supplement with magnesium although I would recommend you focus on the foods if possible. If you hate these foods, I sometimes supplement with the Jigsaw Magnesium. I may make my own supplement someday and then SHILL magnesium…muahahah
