Treat Exercise like

If you know little to nothing about investing money, I highly recommend the easy read I Will Teach You To Be Rich by Ramit Sethi. It is simple system that allows you to make your own automation of easy investing and banking to help you slowly gain wealth without thinking too hard.

So what the hell does this have to do with exercise? 95% of my patients think their weight issues are from them not exercising enough. First, that’s not true (read this article). Second, I tell my patients to completely forget the calories they burn during exercise. Don’t even count them towards your daily calorie counting.

Here is what happens. The patient or online client will show me their calorie count via their my fitness pal or MyMacros+ app and then add in what they think they burned through exercise as added calories they can eat. This is problematic because we tend to overestimate how many calories we burn during exercise. Not to mention our bodies compensate in various ways to make up for those calories burned.

My advice is to treat the exercise like automatic investments and banking and put it out of sight and out of mind. Put it in the bank for savings. Unless you are trying to lose weight slowly or are already very lean and want to hold on to every ounce of muscle, just forget about adding in estimated calories burned from exercise.
